A realistically gritty Hillbilly-Noir set in the Ozarks, where crack is the modern moonshine and joining the army one of the few career options available. Seventeen year old Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) who minds her two small siblings and her dysfunctional mother tries to track down her errant drug-dealing father who has posted their home as bail bond. It is a harrowing slow burner, peppered with a singular cast of misfits and miscreants and an awesome landscape.
