"Kenmare Eco B&B" a local bed and breakfast has been nominated for a prestigious UK responsible tourism award. The ecologically build bed and breakfast situated in Gearhadiveen, Kenmare has been nominated for ‘Best accommodation’ in the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards 2011. The competition is hosted by Virgin Airways and the leading English website http://www.responsibletravel.co.uk/. Responsible travel advertise holidays that operate within a strict environmental sphere and offer guests wholesome, locally sourced organic foods. Kenmare Eco Bed & Breakfast which hosts the popular Mediterranean Cooking Nights every month, is owned by Áine de Bairéad, writer and activist. Áine involved in a number of local enhancement projects, such as the planned Kenmare Heritage Trail and the development work of 'Greening of Derelict Spaces' under the Tidy Towns Association. "On a month when I had two setbacks ( a major delay to a writing project and a broken ankle), it is nice to be considered for this green initiative". Áine has been nominated under two catogeries.
