Brook Lane Hotel: Traveler Reviews

My wife and I were several days into our self-directed driving tour of Ireland, and were starting to run out of gas...we had just driven from Dingle to Killarney and Muckross House, and looked forward to getting to Kenmare for the night...we did not realize that the N71 was going to be such a gorgeous but treacherous leg of our trip, so by the time we reached Kenmare, we were absolutely fried.

The Ring of Kerry; beautiful as they say or just blarney?

We decided this year that we wanted to visit the world famous Ring of Kerry in Southern Ireland as our family holiday. So we found a cottage online just outside a town called Kenmare on the southern tip of the ring.
Our favourite number quickly became four. Four hours to the ferry at Fishguard. A four-hour crossing to Rosslare and then a four hour trip to Kenmare, which including the ferry, went very smoothly. We even used fore on the golf course, although spelled slightly differently.Once we de-camped in the cottage we hit the town - the wonderful town of Kenmare. Wonderful because of the vivid colours of the buildings, the soft warm tones of the Irish accent, the incredible welcome you receive when you pop into any shop or bar, the taste of the ice cream from the all-night parlor, the music and bands which play outside every bar, and of course, the 'black stuff'.The drive around the ring would normally take about three hours, but it took us all week. The views were just breathtaking, every few minutes you have to stop and take a picture - just incredible.Fantastic views that look like Bermuda, picture-perfect villages which quite often had a house with a petrol pump in the front garden, and quite often, empty of petrol. The route takes you through Sneem, Caherdaniel, Waterville, Cahersiveen, Kells (my favourite bay), Glenbeigh, Killorglin and Killarney. Now, if anyone tells you the route is gorgeous and worth seeing - they're lying; it’s more beautiful, breathtaking, and amazing than anyone can describe to you.And then you have the golf courses - oh my word!My eldest son, Matt, and I played a couple of games during the week at Kenmare GC and the Ring of Kerry; both were lovely courses. The Ring of Kerry had the most amazing views I have ever seen on a golf course, and to boot the warm welcome we received, I was even offered membership. The ring of Kerry is beautiful but I enjoyed the blarney as well.

Kenmare Golf Club WIN THE DR. BILLY O' SULLIVAN SHIELD

KENMARE are the 2011 Dr Billy O'Sullivan Shield champions following a great win in an exciting final against Dooks at Beaufort some of the golf played was more like that played by scratch players than eighteen plus handicappers.

The result of three and a half to one and a half does not really reflect the closeness of the game but Kenmare were well worth their win.

Of the four semi-finalists Kenmare had played the best golf and the writing should have been on the wall but many people favoured Dooks for the win thinking that maybe Kenmare would not produce the goods for the second week running. However, they proved everyone wrong and fair play to them.

Both sides made a number of changes to their line up's from the semi-finals for availability and tactical reasons. Kenmare are absolutely thrilled to have won the title as they have not won it since 2003.

The season comes to a close on another Dr Billy O'Sullivan tournament as Kenmare pick up their fourth title having previously won in 1994, 2001 and 2003 making them the most successful club in the history of the championship alongside Killarney who have also won it on four occasions.
